Melissa Macgown is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. She specializes in working with individuals, couples, and families on a wide range of issues, including trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, addiction, substance abuse, and relational dynamics. Melissa is passionate about helping others achieve personal growth, emotional resilience, and overall mental wellness.
She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based therapeutic approach that is particularly effective in treating trauma and unresolved emotional distress. Melissa also incorporates guided visualization techniques and other holistic modalities into her work, drawing from practices she was first introduced to as a young teenager by her aunt, a fellow therapist. This early exposure deeply influenced her decision to pursue a career in counseling.
Melissa earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where she was named to the Dean’s List twice. She went on to complete her Master’s degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy from the University of Phoenix, graduating with honors and a 3.9 GPA, all while working full-time and attending classes at night.
Throughout her career, Melissa has been known not only for her clinical skill and empathy but also for her leadership, having served as a clinical supervisor to other professionals in the field. She joined Citrus Counseling Services after being referred by a former supervisee who immediately thought of her when an opportunity became available. Melissa is excited to be part of the CCS team and is committed to supporting clients in achieving their therapeutic goals and enhancing their quality of life.
