Our History
Operational Since
Founding and Early Beginnings
Citrus Counseling Services (CCS) originated through collaborative discussions with the Redlands Area Interfaith Council. Leaders from First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, United Church of Christ, and State Street Christian Church came together to establish a community faith-counseling ministry sponsored by their congregations. Initially named Christian Counseling Service, the organization aimed to provide counseling with a spiritual foundation.
As the mental health field advanced, it became evident that integrating spiritual beliefs into treatment was essential for many individuals. In response, CCS evolved to offer services to people of all spiritual affiliations, leading to a name change to Citrus Counseling Services in 2021. We are dedicated to treating the whole person—physically, mentally, and spiritually—while remaining deeply rooted in our community and faith.
Merger with Family Service Agency of San Bernardino
In September 2022, the CEO of the Family Service Agency of San Bernardino (FSASB) informed CCS that FSASB would be closing in December 2022 unless it could merge with or be acquired by another organization. Established in 1946, FSASB provided essential mental health services to low-income families. Recognizing the potential impact on underserved communities such as Adelanto, Crestline, and San Bernardino, the CCS Board undertook an extensive due diligence process and determined that a merger would be viable. Effective January 2023, the merger integrated the strengths, resources, contracts, and organizational structures of both agencies.
